VENICE

Introduction Video

Full frame sensor and wide range of lens compatibility:


VENICE is equipped with a 36x24mm full-frame image sensor, designed specifically for the demands and performance of high end cinematography, and can capture images up to a maximum resolution of 6048 x 4032*. By switching imager modes, VENICE can natively support Super35 24.9x18.7mm, 4096 x 3024 resolution (equivalent to 4-perforation motion picture film) and Super35 24.9x14.0mm 4096 x 2160 resolution (equivalent to 3-perforation motion picture film). In other words, VENICE's new full-frame sensor can capture in almost any format, including full 18mm-height Super35 Anamorphic and spherical and full-frame 24mm-height Anamorphic and spherical*. Almost any aspect ratio can be conjured up: 1.85:1, 2.39:1, 17:9, the list goes on in full-frame or Super35.

With VENICE, Sony is giving users the option to customize their camera by only enabling the features needed, according to their individual production requirements. Licenses will be available to expand the camera's capabilities with new features including 4K anamorphic and full-frame.

Creative freedom :

- Full-Frame Full width 36 mm 6K
In full-frame, you can use the full 6048 pixel width of the sensor for widescreen spherical 2.39:1 or Large Format Scope. Full-Frame can be used creatively in a number of ways – for example, to allow for extra shallow depth of field or super-wide shooting.

- Super35 full height 2x squeeze Anamorphic
For anamorphic shooting and production, Super35 full height 2x squeeze anamorphic is supported.

- Super35 17:9 and 16:9
These popular imager sizes are natively supported by VENICE. Current Super35mm PL mount lenses can be used.

Compact and Intuitive :

VENICE has a surprisingly compact design which allows easier shooting in confined spaces or on drones. VENICE's control buttons reflect the requirements of camera operators, carefully positioned for intuitive operation. They even illuminate for easy use on dark sets. On-set monitoring operation is further enhanced by the addition of an extra HD output alongside the standard 4K-SDI. VENICE can be powered by both 12V and 24V power sources that can be connected at the rear. A wide range of accessories are supported, including standard Fischer connectors. For enhanced durability in tough conditions, the viewfinder uses a LEMO connector.

Easily Configurable :

VENICE has a fully modular design and even the sensor block is interchangeable. So, as sensor technology advances in far future, you have the opportunity to upgrade without investing in a new camera. In order to maintain ergonomic balance for operators, the top handle and viewfinder are easily adjustable. As the height of the camera from the bottom to the optical center of the lens mount is the same as the F55, base plates and other accessories used for the F55 can be used with VENICE. The AXS-R7 recorder can be attached to VENICE with just four screws.

Intuitive and Familiar On-Set Operation :

 

VENICE has control displays on both sides of the camera, with the main display on the camera outside for fast access to the camera settings by the camera assistant while shooting. The camera operator's OLED mini display allows intuitive control of commonly accessed features such as ND filter, shutter, FPS, White Balance and Exposure Index. The control interface is an all-new design based on extensive researches with camera operators.

High Performance, Proven Recording Formats :

VENICE offers complete production flexibility. Internally, VENICE can support XAVC, ProRes or MPEG HD recording onto SxS memory card. Additionally, by using the AXS-R7 recorder, it can record 16 bit RAW or X-OCN (16-bit eXtended tonal range Original Camera Negative) onto AXS memory card.


Recording Formats


Simultaneous Recording for faster workflow :

A key benefit of VENICE is simultaneous recording using two recording media. For example, a production could use RAW/X-OCN data recorded by AXS-R7 for online editing and also use XAVC, ProRes or MPEG HD for offline editing without waiting for any file conversion. As VENICE can also record XAVC 4K and RAW / X-OCN simultaneously, another option would be to use XAVC 4K for quick turnaround mainstream production while using simultaneously recording RAW / X-OCN as a future-proof archive suitable for the highest quality HDR applications.

Even without using AXS-R7, VENICE itself can record XAVC 4K and ProRes 422 Proxy simultaneously. VENICE is designed to support both the highest quality imagery and high speed workflows.

Fast Shutter :

Jello effect is something that we don't need when filming. VENICE has high speed readout sensor which minimizes the jello effect that are typical in the CMOS sensors.

Phenomenal latitude :

VENICE has an exceptional 15+ stops of latitude, with low noise for extraordinary performance in delivering phenomenal images in conditions from searing sunlight to almost no light. VENICE's real-world performance also excels at High Dynamic Range imaging and allows unprecedented creative freedom in grading.

More colors for More Expression :

VENICE can exceed Rec. 2020 color space. This means the color range is wider than DCI-P3 and can beautifully reproduce the true color of the scene in front of your lens. This also provides the broad palette in the grading suite using the established workflow of Sony's third generation LOG gamma encoding (S-Log3), and Ultra-wide color space.

PL Lens Mount :

VENICE comes with the industry-standard PL lens mount. It is compatible with all Super35 and full-frame PL lenses, spherical and anamorphic. The lens mount includes contacts that support Cooke/i Technology. Lens information is recorded as metadata frame by frame.

Lever Lock Type E-mount :

E-mount offers unsurpassed compatibility with Sony lenses. E-mount (lever lock type) gives users the ability to change lenses by rotating the locking collar rather than the lens itself, which means that in most cases lens support rigs don't need to be removed, saves time during a production.

Depth of Field :

As the sensor size gets larger, depth of field becomes shallower. VENICE's wide 36 mm full-frame sensor can capture images that have the equivalent of 1-2 stops shallower depth of field compared to Super35.

Anamorphic Look :

VENICE's support for anamorphic lenses combined with its ability to shoot 4:3 aspect ratio at a horizontal resolution of 4K allows the capture of breathtakingly beautiful images with stunning lens flare, bokeh and emotional impact.

6K High Resolution :

The stunning full 6K resolution of the camera can be recorded directly in X-OCN (16 bit Extended tonal range Original Camera Negative) file format. Also, XAVC 4K can be captured onto SxS cards while still sampling from the full 6K resolution of the sensor.

World's first 8-step Mechanical ND Filters :

VENICE is the world's first camera of its class with a servo-controlled 8-step Mechanical ND filter mechanism built into the camera chassis. It offers a massive ND of 0.3 (1/2 = 1 stop) to ND2.4 (1/256 = 8 stops) range that reduces time lost on set changing external filters. The ND filters also greatly increase VENICE's flexibility when being controlled remotely on drones and cranes, or in an underwater housing.

Next Generation Viewfinder :

The DVF-EL200 was specifically created as the perfect partner for VENICE due to its exceptional performance and additional control features. It has a 1920 x 1080-resolution OLED panel with exceptional high contrast, enabling precise, high resolution focusing and framing. Its all-new ergonomic design allows for tool-free attachment/detachment and reconfiguring within seconds. A rotary encoder provides instant access to brightness, peaking and contrast. The industry-standard LEMO connector offers exceptional durability.

 

 

 

PXWZ90 - 4K Handheld Camcorder:

Palm camcorder with broadcast quality 4K HDR, Fast Hybrid AF & 3G-SDI

The PXW-Z90 incorporates an advanced Fast Hybrid AF system, alongside face detection and lock-on auto focus technology, making it easy to focus and track a subject while filming.
Enhanced Fast Hybrid auto focus (AF) is comprised of a number of features: Phase-detection AF with up to 273 reference points covering approximately 84% of the image area, face detection and lock-on auto focus technology to estimate subject movement. They all work together seamlessly to capture fast-moving subjects with amazing sharpness.

The PXW-Z90 is the first professional palm-sized camcorder to deliver stunning 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) content with Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) file-based workflows. S-Log3 is also supported, enabling you to create beautiful imagery with a wide colour gamut and colour range.
Shoot, edit and view HDR content in HLG without the need for additional colour grading. As the expanding need for HDR content continues, internet video platforms and professionals producing corporate or event content are paying more attention to the added value of HDR. They need to deliver content quickly, without compromising on imaging expression and quality of content. To meet this demand, the PXW-Z90 offers Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) recording, in addition to S-Log3, for easy file-based workflows, whilst achieving the image quality of HDR. This simple workflow enables the shooting, editing and viewing of HDR content in HLG, without devoting a lot of time to post-production work and additional color grading.

High Frame Rate shots can turn everyday actions into slow motion ballet and the PXW-Z90 delivers a stunning 100 frames per second (fps) in Full HD XAVC 10bit 4:2:2, giving you continuous 5 times slow motion expression. Higher frame rates up to 1000fps using S&Q motion cache recording are also possible for even greater creative flexibility. There's no sacrifice in bit depth and no "windowing" of the sensor. So there's no crop factor, no loss in angle of view.
The PXW-Z90 is supplied with a fixed 29mm wide-angle ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens, ideal for capturing panoramic landscapes. The 12x optical zoom can be increased to 18x with Clear Image Zoom, maintaining QFHD resolution using Super Resolution Technology or 24x in HD. In addition, the Digital Extender can double this range again, up to 48x zoom.

The camcorder's lens ring enables smooth, natural adjustment of focusing or zooming, depending on which mode is selected; while the manual dial and buttons on the side of the body allow swift and easy adjustment of IRIS (aperture), ISO/GAIN and shutter speed.

The PXW-Z90 allows you to record a wide range of 4K (QFHD) and HD formats for maximum flexibility from thisstunning palm-sized camcorder. The Z90 supports XAVC QFHD 100Mbps recordings at 30p/25p/24p, XAVC HD Long GOP 422 50Mbps, MPEGHD422 50Mbps*, MPEGHD420 35Mbps and AVCHD.
The PXW-Z90 comes with 5GHz* and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi as standard – simply turn on and log onto your preferred network to enable a host of advanced wireless production features:

- Ustream® Direct Streaming allows you to share scenes as they happen with high quality picture and sound without a switcher.

- QoS Streaming to XDCAM air allows images to be streamed live from the camcorder for viewing at a remote location.

- FTP Transfer allows content files recorded with MPEG HD 422/420 proxy feature (CBKZ-SLMP required) and other content files shot in XAVC (QFHD/FHD) and AVCHD formats to be sent over the internet for remote storage on an FTP server.

- XDCAM air can upload proxy footage to the cloud from multiple camera operators in the field, so editing can start immediately. Uploaded content can be accessed securely from any location. News teams can even start logging clips while shooting's still going on, saving even more valuable time when a story's breaking.

- Wi-Fi/NFC (Near Field Communication) with Content Browser Mobile™ allows the PXW-Z90 to be remotely controlled from a smartphone or tablet computer (iOS 9.0 - 10.3 or Android 4.4 through 7.1) via a Wi-Fi connection. One-touch authentication is also possible with smartphones that offer NFC connectivity

- Wired LAN connection allows the PXW-Z90 to be connected to the internet over a wired connection via the separately available VMC-UAM2 USB adapter cable and network adaptor kit (CBK-NA1), allowing files to be streamed or transferred by FTP.

The PXW-Z90 is designed to work seamlessly with Sony's MCX-500 Multi Camera Live Producer, a robust and cost-effective switcher that makes it easy for one person to run a multi-camera live event shoot. When used with the MCX-500 and Remote Commander RM-30BP, a Tally indicator will automatically appear on each PXW-Z90's LCD panel and viewfinder – a red icon indicates when the shot is live (PGM) while Green indicates preview mode (PVW). The MCX-500 supports up to 9 video inputs, 5 channel stereo inputs including XLR with both internal recording and live streaming via Ustream™, Facebook Live, and Youtube Live. When shooting with multiple camcorders, you can synchronize the timecode of each camcorder using Content Browser Mobile™ (CBM) smartphone application* with optional CBKZ-WTCL upgrade. With this feature, all camcorders can synchronise to the primary camcorder you select or to a manually set time – whichever you prefer.

HXR-NX80 - 4K Handheld Camcorder:

3.1. Firmware Update:

The latest firmware updates will apply to the High Brightness Mode of Sony's PVM-X550 4K TRIMASTER EL™ OLED picture monitor, version 2.0 of the PVM-A series TRIMASTER EL™ OLED Full HD picture monitor (PVM-A250, PVM-A170) and LMD-A series LCD Full HD picture monitors (LMD-A240, LMD-A220, LMD-A170).
The firmware updates will be available in Europe from the following dates:
High Brightness Mode for PVM-X550 First quarter of 2018 onwards
Version 2.0 for PVM-A and LMD-A series September 2017 onwards

3.1.1. High Brightness Mode for PVM-X550:

The new firmware provides existing PVM-X550 users with a new High Brightness Mode that delivers wider dynamic range in order to reproduce more realistic colours. Optimised for 4K colour grading, the new mode achieves more than 180 per cent in HDR Peak Luminance tests when compared to the current PVM-X550.

Notably, the brightness and saturation are carefully controlled by the in-built signal processing that provides a 12-bit output signal, specifically designed by Sony for OLED and used in its BVM series and the PVM-X550, ensuring stunning black reproduction. High Brightness Mode also applies to the unique quad view mode. It enables customised individual settings of Electro-Optical Transfer Functions (EOTF), colour gamut with the wider HDR brightness on each quadrant.

3.1.2. Version 2.0 Firmware Update for PVM-A and LMD-A series:

The Version 2.0 firmware update equips Sony's high-grade picture monitors with a wider colour gamut for accurate colour reproduction that meets the constantly evolving demands in 4K, cinematography and graphics applications.

The PVM-A & LMD-A-series V2.0 fulfils the demand for an affordable HD monitor in a 4K system. The unit supports the ITU-R BT.2020 colour space and accepts one of Quad-link 2SI 3G-SDI signals. To fully utilise its wide colour gamut, the monitor offers DCI-P3 and S-GAMUT/S-GAMUT3/S-GAMUT3.cine settings, with proper EOTFs such as 2.6 gamma, S-Log3(SDR) and S-Log2(SDR).It also offers DCI-P3, S-Gamut3 / S-Gamut3.cine and Adobe RGB settings to utilise its wide colour gamut alongside proper EOTFs such as 2.6 gamma alongside S-Log3 (SDR) and S-Log2 (SDR).

In addition, the Version 2.0 update adds enhanced field application features with four new camera shooting/live event support functions. They include the sync-free side-by-side where users can monitor two pictures without synchronisation, false colour that checks the exposure level of a camera at a glance from a distance, audio muting to assist users looking to start shooting quickly, and flexible area markers anywhere on the screen to create unique screen layouts. For example, being able to instantly differentiate between a product and its commercial data for shopping channels.

The RX0 (model name: DSC-RX0) marries the hallmark leading image quality of the Sony RX series with advanced photo and video capabilities, all compressed into a robust and ultra-compact body.

Weighing just 110g and measuring 59mm x 40.5mm x 29.8mm (WxHxD), RX0 redefines how small and light a premium compact camera can be. It can be used as a standalone camera for capturing photos or videos in any shooting conditions including the rain, underwater, or in sandy or dusty environments and is equally adept as a part of a multi-camera setup to shoot subjects from a variety of different viewpoints.

Stimulating imaginations

In addition to conventional bullet-time and time-slice shooting, the RX0 multi-camera shooting solution opens the door to a new world of imaging opportunity and can be organised in a number of different ways. Sony's wireless radio commander, the FA-WRC1M can be used to trigger up to fifteen RX0's. The PlayMemories™ Mobile app allows up to five RX0 models to be connected wirelessly and the perfectly balanced form factor means that units can easily be secured in tough shooting positions to capture incredible new perspectives.

Power packed

RX0 is packed full of advanced Sony technology and features a 1.0-type stacked 15.3MP Exmor RSCMOS image sensor, BIONZ X® processor and a wide-angle ZEISS® Tessar T* 24mm F4 fixed lens to deliver high resolution and less distortion results for both RAW and JPEG stills and across all supported video formats. It has an Anti-Distortion Shutter of up to 1/32000 second and can shoot at up to 16fps, meaning that even fast moving objects are beautifully and accurately rendered. For those looking to capture the decisive moments of daily life, the compact nature of RX0 means that usage is as unobtrusive as possible, thus maximising the possibility for natural, high quality shooting.

RX0 is waterproof at depths of up to 10 metres and when used with the new MPK-HSR1Housing, can be used down to a staggering 100 metres depth. It is shockproof when dropped from up to 2 metres and crushproof to 200kgf / 2000N, making it durable enough to withstand shooting in difficult situations where traditional cameras simply cannot go. Users can now produce content that simply has previously not been possible and the rain, sand and space-limited or dusty environments are no longer a barrier.

Video Excellence

The RX0 was conceived as a camera that is just as useful to the videographer as the photographer and this spirit manifests itself with a host of creative video features delivering stunning videoresults. For those who want to incorporate super slow motion footage, the RX0 offers the opportunity to shoot at up to 1000 frames per second, offering the opportunity to transform even the most mundane moment into something spectacular. For production flexibility, you can use 4K clean HDMI output to record uncompressed video to an external recorder. With both MF Assist and Peaking Functions, the focus can be precisely adjusted to your exact specifications and Picture Profile options and S-Log2 offer creative freedom to deliver the end result that you envisioned in your mind. Time Code / User Bit features provide an essential tool for multi-camera shoots in particular, making the editing process a much easier experience, and Preset Focus options add a true element of control to a shoot.

Full Range of Accessories

To maximise the potential of RX0, a host of new accessories to support new ways of shooting have also been launched.
